Attorney Janie Lanza Vowles concentrates her practice in the areas of litigation and family law, representing both individuals and businesses in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Attorney Vowles has significant experience with wrongful termination and other employment matters, including disability, sexual harassment, gender and other discrimination claims, retaliatory discharge claims, and matters involving violations of the Massachusetts Fair Employment Practices Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Massachusetts Workers Compensation Law and the Massachusetts Wages Act. She has represented clients before the Department of Unemployment Assistance, the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, as well as state and federal courts. Attorney Vowles also handles divorce, paternity, custody, support and guardianship matters in the Commonwealth’s Probate And Family Courts. With significant experience as a guardian ad litem investigator in contested custody cases, Attorney Vowles regularly assists clients manage even the most difficult custody and probate matters.

Before starting her own practice in July 2007, Attorney Vowles’ legal background included both large and smaller firms, at which she represented clients in a variety of contested matters, including cases involving breaches of trustee and shareholder fiduciary duties, intentional interference with contracts and business opportunities, breaches of stock purchase agreements, contract and warranty disputes arising under the Uniform Commercial Code, premises liability matters, toxic exposure claims, insurance coverage disputes and alleged violations of laws governing competition and trade practices in the marketplace.

Attorney Vowles’ business and finance background serves her clients well, particularly in complex litigation and domestic relations matters that require keen attention to business and accounting practices. Her office is armed with the technology and resources necessary to prepare your case for effective settlement negotiation and – when necessary – trial before the appropriate forum. At the same time, Attorney Vowles maintains a cost-effective and results-oriented approach to all matters, working closely with the client to develop a case strategy based on the client’s particular needs and budgetary considerations.

Attorney Vowles was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1997. She is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the New Hampshire Bar.

Attorney Vowles was a magna cum laude graduate of Bentley College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics/Finance, and a cum laude graduate of Boston University School of Law. While in law school, she was an editor of the Boston University Law Review.
